Alonso has been fighting a rare, aggressive disorder called Histiocytosis with Rosai-Dorfman disease since he was just nine months old. Following a major surgery at age one, his childhood has been a blur of continuous hospitalizations, intense chemotherapies, and complex medical testing. Alonso is raised by a single mother in Venezuela who is currently unemployed. She is carrying the heavy burden of his medical expenses entirely on her own. Weekly bills for essential chemotherapies, specialized medications, ultrasounds, and CT scans have pushed them to a critical breaking point.
